Accomplishments

Business Economics Student Thomas Parsons

Thomas Parsons ~  19, grew up snowboarding at Sunday River and graduated from Gould Accademy in Bethel in 2001. As a senior at Gould, he won the 2001 USASA National Junior Championship in boarder-cross at Mammoth Mountain, California. Parsons is now a Sophomore majoring in Business Economics at the University of Maine at Farmington. He coaches young snowboarders in the Gould/Sunday River Development Program on weekends, and trains with the GSR program. Parsons won a bronze medal in February’s FIS World Junior Snowboard Championship in Prato Nevoso, Italy, and heads next to Aspen, Colorado for the USSA Snowboard Finals, where the nation’s best pro-riders will compete to determine the Boarder-cross (SBX) National Champion.

"Thomas is so psyched with the medal," said U.S. Snowboarding program manager Becky Woolley.  "It's great to see that all his hard work paid off for him."

Parson said "Although it's not easy balancing a fulltime college academic work load with an elite competitive snowboarding schedule, UMF's Business Economic professors have been more than accommodating and tolerant of my sporadic traveling agenda."  "I view these international snowboarding trips not only as a competition, but as a way to expand my education about the world in which we live."

Update: Thomas Parsons of Bethel took first place in the men’s open class boarder-cross at the USASA National Championships on Saturday, March 29th, at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, Maine. Parsons’ medal was the second gold of the week for the Gould/Sunday River program.
