Political Science Faculty Awards

Dr. Scott Erb Runner up of the University of Maine at Farmington Staff Appreciation Award for 2004-2005 for five to ten years of service. 

 

Dr. Jim Melcher was honored at the 2004 American Political Science Association Convention in Chicago at a reception for award winning college teachers.  He was invited to the reception at the winner of UMF's Faculty of the Year Award for Faculty with one to five years of service.

 

Geography Faculty Awards

Professor Brad Dearden is the recipient of the Japan Studies Institute Sasakawa Fellowship, for participation in the National Faculty Development Institute, through the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) for June 1st-24th, 2005.

 

UMF Faculty Awards for 1995 - 2005

Excellence in Civic Engagement Award recognizes faculty or staff members who have exhibited a commitment to getting students involved in Civic Engagements through internships, practica, student employment, campus initiatives/movements, and/or clubs and organizations.

Excellence in Service-Learning/Civic Engagement in the Classroom Award is presented to faculty members who have made service an integral part of their teaching in at least one course offered at UMF.  The award recognizes faculty who used Service-Learning or Civic Engagements as an innovative teaching tool to engage students in civic learning.  The faculty members have shown clear evidence of reflection, community benefit and reciprocity with the community partners.

Committed to the Concept(s) of Service-Learning and/or Civic Engagement Award is presented to faculty, staff, and administrators who have demonstrated one or more of these qualities:

  • Displayed a continued commitment to offering Service-Learning/Civic Engagement opportunities to students over a number of years during their time at UMF

  • Demonstrated leadership in Service-Learning/Civic Engagement, for example, by mentoring other faculty members, advocating for Service-Learning leadership team, or presenting workshops

  • Participated in Service-Learning/Civic Engagement professional workshops, institutes or conferences

  • Acted as a campus steward for Service-Learning/Civic Engagement

Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation

To Award Scholarship To Kevin Rodrigues

The trustees of the Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation, recognizing the importance of education and student difficulty in meeting the financial demands, are pleased to announce that on December 11, 2003 a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Kevin Rodriguez, a graduate of Portland High School attending the University of Maine at Farmington.  Mr. Rodriguez is a senior majoring in Business Economics.

This year the MeHEAF trustees have selected thirteen Maine colleges and universities to receive scholarships.  The participating school chooses student scholarship recipients.  All student scholarship recipients must be/have:

  •  in the second, third, or fourth years

  •  a Maine high school graduate,

  •  majoring in a business related subject

  •  good academic standing,

  •  financial need. 

All scholarship are awarded for second semester expenses.

Schools receiving MeHEAF scholarship this year are the University of Maine Fort Kent, University of Maine Machias, the University of Maine at Orono, the University of Maine  at Farmington, the University of Southern Maine, the University of Maine Presque Isle, the University of Maine at Augusta, the University of Maine Lewiston/Auburn, the University of New England in Biddeford and Westbrook, St. Joseph's College, Husson College, Thomas College, and Southern Maine Community College.

Previous scholarship recipients from the University of Maine at Farmington include Sarah Dailey, Heidi Doucette, Corey Ellis, Penny Henry, Lacy Bamford, Mathew Daigneault, Gary Marden, Rebecca MacKenzie, Sunny Stutzman, Doreen Hartley, and Patricia Gordon.

The Maine Higher Education Assistance Foundation is administered by the Maine Bankers Association and is located in Augusta at 132 State Street.  The Maine Bankers Association Vice President Mark Walker made the presentation.

 

Students In Free Enterprise Award

On March 2nd 2003 the University of Maine at Farmington SIFE’s team participated in a regional competition presenting there projects to a panel of judges. These projects were geared towards giving back to the Franklin County. Projects included Kaufman Fast Track, Economic Development Program, Entreperanual Leadership for middle school students, and a Volunteer Tax Preparation Program. UMF SIFE’s team won against prestigious schools including Harvard, BU, and BC. This is just another part of how strong and intelligent our business students are.
