Business Economics Club ~ Mission The mission of the Business/Economics Club is to provide more resource information, activities, and opportunities to the Business/Economic students and faculty. As a club we would like to invite business professionals, economists, and alumni to speak upon different topics of interest. We would like to have informational seminars on the use of various computer programs which are used in the workforce today, job search techniques, and mastering interviewing skills. Also, we organize trips to different businesses, job fairs, trade shows, and seminars.
Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) ~ Mission SIFE is a nonprofit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in a real working situation. SIFE challenges students on more than 800 college campuses nationwide to take what they're learning in the classroom and use their knowledge to better their communities. Guided by faculty advisors who are named Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellows in honor of the late Wal-Mart founder, SIFE Teams establish a variety of community outreach programs that teach free enterprise. For example, they teach concepts such as budgeting, accounting and supply and demand. They help budding entrepreneurs get their plans off the ground and mentor at-risk students, inspiring them to reach for their dreams.

History
History Society ~ Mission
1. Expand academic
opportunities at UMF through expansion of and cooperation with the history
faculty at UMF.
Civil War Society ~ Mission The Civil War Society was established to explore their interests in the American Civil War. The club's focus is to promote the members' interests and to bring awareness of the Civil War to UMF and the community by means of guest speakers, fieldtrips, movies and re-enacting/living history. With living history members can actually experience the lives of Civil War combatants and civilians. The club has formed the 2nd Maine Infantry re-enactment group in which we portray Union infantry at re-enacting events, but "impressions" from any aspect of the war (Confederate, civilians, etc) are always welcomed and encouraged. Of course, no experience in history is needed, only genuine enthusiasm to learn and to share an interest with other students.
Alpha Iota Omicron ~ Mission Phi Alpha Theta is a National Honor Society devoted to promoting the study of History. The society was established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas. Phi Alpha Theta's goal is to recognize students for outstanding academic achievement and to promote the study of history through research, teaching, and publication. Since its inception, Phi Alpha Theta has since grown to included over 800 chapters nationwide, more than any other accredited four-year college honor society. Alpha Iota Omicron is the University of Maine at Farmington's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. The chapter was formally organized on May 8, 2002.
International Studies
International Club ~ Mission We bring awareness of international diversity to the UMF campus. We also share the culture of Maine and the United States with International Students.
Political Science Political Science Club ~ Mission The UMF Political Science Club's mission is to promote political discussion and action on the UMF campus. Forums on political issues, discussions with candidates, and trips to places like Washington, D.C. are some of the things that the club has done in the past, and we are always looking for new ideas. The club is nonpartisan and open to all people, regardless of major, with an interest in government or politics. |
